CURRENT WORK: JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH! Costume, props, puppets, including an 8 ft rhino puppet!
Hello! I am TonyaMarie, artistic director, designer, artist and wearer of all hats, bells and glitter of Gypsy Cat Studios started Jan 2007!
I am also a Mother, Grandmother and animal advocate.
I am a freelance, multi-disciplined, international, mixed media sculptress with work across the U.S.A as well as Australia. I regularly work in both Ohio, my "landing spot" where my kids and Grandkids are at, and also my other home in the East Bay, San Francisco CA . I am available for freelance work anywhere in the world that sparks my interest so send me an email if you have a project, no matter where you are! I have mostly sculpture photos uploaded so far, but I am generally contracted as a costume/fashion designer, designer in many mediums, props builder, teacher (sculpture, theatrical fields, sewing costumes, fabricating props in theater camps for kids and teens programs) I am planning to start teaching sculpture in Powertex (a non-toxic, environmentally friendly fabric stiffening agent) combined with textiles and other mediums soon at my 400 West Rich St studio in Columbus Ohio as well as other states and countries!
I have a wide variety of skill sets and a Masters Degree in fine art sculpture with my favorite medium being fabrics and textiles mixed with whatever other material combination with it that interests me!.
I also create props and monster type creations, and Fashion Design. so I do a VERY wide variety of work and love it that way! I love a design challenge! Please feel free to look at what I have on here so far and please stop back in to see the finished site with galleries of photos of all of my work in sculpture, costume, fashion, makeup, puppets, props, classes, commissioned oddities of all kinds from hybrid fox/child manequins , 18 ft genie puppets and headdress and most recently an 8 ft rhino puppet, wacky vaudeville inspired costumes and bug puppets for James and the Giant Peach!
I am an absolute animal advocate and love to combine my creative art work with my animal work to benefit the animals as well as educate the public and raise funds for the animals. Gypsy Cat Studios donates to at least 5 animal organizations each year. I have permanent work at Cincinnati Zoo & San Francisco Zoo .
I also have an extensive experience in the animal care world: wildlife, domestic and exotics: in Wildlife rehab centers, zoos, and 9 years as a certified veterinary assistant.
UP NEXT IN COLUMBUS: SHREK, SPRING AWAKENING, and a SOLO GALLERY SHOW at 400 West Rich St in Nov.
My winning work from Urban Scrawl 2016 is being auctioned off for the George Bellows artist grant and Art for Franklinton at the Idea Foundry on May 20!
IN CALIFORNIA: Fairyland of Oakland: Tunisian Tales (costumes) and Giant butterfly and caterpillar puppets
