Animal Advocacy
As an artist, former veterinary assistant and wildlife rescue and caregiver, I truly love and appreciate animals and feel very strongly about animal rights, I will not use animal skins or furs in my commissioned work.
When being employed as a costumer for non-profits' show, shoes from their existing costume closet may or may not be real leather (it is unmarked so you often cant tell, but that is where I draw the line. I will not buy new pieces that contain animal for ANYONE so as to not support the leather , fur, feather industry . Popular MYTH: leather is just a by product of the meat industry. NO it is not. It is it's own huge cruel and environmentally hazardous business all on it's own! A portion of profits from sales of work through Gypsy Cat Studios goes to animal causes of my choice each year. I also get the most satisfaction as an artist when my work can benefit animals directly like the pieces I created for Cincinnati Zoo and San Francisco Zoo and countless habitat pieces for wildlife rehab centers in Ohio over the years. Images above were all my work that proceeds went to animal welfare causes. My work was done free and I paid for materials as well. |
